Local roundup: Cosmopoulos reaches a milestone as Fitch softball tops St. Bernard

Groton — Grace Cosmopoulos got her 100th career hit and Emma Robinson homered twice for the Fitch High School softball team Friday in a 15-3 victory over St. Bernard in six innings. Jaedin Steffins led off the first inning with a triple for Fitch (2-1) and Maerin Lyon followed with a two-run homer. Cosmopolulos, a senior, singled in the third for her 100th hit. Robinson had a two-run home run in the second inning and a three-run shot in the third, finishing with three hits. Hailey Merrill struck out eight to earn the victory. Annabelle Wenzel had two hits for St. Bernard (1-2). In other games: • Isabella Deledda and Victoria Kleeman each had three hits for Wheeler in an 18-0, five-inning victory over New London. Shay Deary and Molly Perkins added two hits each for the Lions (1-0), who scored eight runs in the first inning and Kleeman struck out 15 to earn the victory. Jayani Van-Alstyne doubled for New London (0-2). • Maya Stimson struck out 13 and added two hits and three runs scored for Norwich Tech in an 11-4 win over Putnam. Autumn Hanks, Khai Maldanado and Nyomi Barboza each added two hits for the Warriors and Diana Kozerefski drove in three runs. H.S. baseball • Brady Zadora went 3-for-3, while Michael Fabiano Jr. had two triples and four RBI in Killingly's 16-0 win over Putnam/Tourtellotte. Joey Gould pitched four innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven for Killingly (2-1), which also got a two-run homer in the third from Ashton Goodwin and two hits each from Jake Beaudreault, Dom Kubera and Hayden Larrow. Putnam/Tourtellotte is 0-3. • Rowen Meisner's grand slam hightlighted a 10-run seventh inning that gave Old Lyme a 14-13 victory over Old Saybrook in the Shoreline Conference. Meisner finished 2-for-3 with five RBI for the Wildcats (1-1, 1-1) and Ben Frazier was 3-for-4 including the game-winning hit. Old Lyme finished with eight stolen bases. • Gavin Polcaro was 2-for-3 with a stolen base in Waterford's 5-0 loss to Westerly. Dylan Matis took the loss for Waterford (2-1) despite allowing just one earned run. • John Mastrokis was 3-for-5, including a solo home run in the third inning, to lift Norwich Tech past Ellis Tech 12-3. Antonio Durand also had three hits and three RBI for the Warriors (1-0), who had 13 hits, and Kyle Stringer earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on three hits, striking our six and walking one. • Grasso Tech defeated Windham Tech 7-3. Carmine Rodriguez and Jerry Santiago each had two hits apiece for Grasso and Gabe Grossman earned the win, striking out three in 4.2 innings. PJ Evans came on in relief for the Eagles, allowing no runs. H.S. boys' tennis • Brady O'Neil, Chase Donnarummo and Sean Lord won singles matches in Stonington's 7-0 victory over Montville. Doubles wins went to the Stonington teams of Peter Schoenecker and Aaron Fulling and Skylar Springer and Thomas Lyon, with Montville forfeiting No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles. The Bears are 3-0. Montville is 1-1. • Montville beat Woodstock 5-2 in an ECC Division III match on Thursday. Benny Wu, Jack Bowman and Ryan Hochdorfer won matches for the Wolves (1-1, 1-0), who also picked up a forfeit win and a victory from Zach Thomas and Adam Gallagher at No. 1 doubles. H.S. girls' tennis • Gwen McGugan won at No. 1 singles for Stonington and Misha Lewandowski, Marina Lewandowski and Bethany Schoenecker also earned singles victories as the Bears blanked NFA 7-0. Samathan Harris and Gabby Donnarummo won at No. 1 doubles for Stonington (2-0). NFA is 0-2. • Charlotte Beaulieu, Maddie Beaulieu, Izzy Ash and Katie Virtue won singles matches in Fitch's 7-0 victory Lyman Memorial. Doubles wins went to the Fitch teams of Abby Malone and Isabel Gustavson, Kelly Turley and Samantha Morin and Ny'Asia Brown and Esme Carlebach. Fitch is 1-1, Lyman 0-3. • East Lyme won every match in straight sets in a 7-0 victory over Ledyard, remaining unbeaten at 3-0. Valentina Schiano, Isabella Villarreal, Mila Lovering and Jessica Feng earned singles wins. Ledyard is 1-1. H.S. boys' lacrosse • Baker Katko had six goals and Henry Champagne five goals and five assists as The Williams School topped Rocky Hill Country Day School 15-6. Williams (4-0) led 4-2 at halftime before breaking the game open in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Finn McCann added four goals and two assists, Champagne had eight groundballs and goalie Henry Gallagher made eight saves for the Blues. • Kyle Olsen scored four goals and had three assists as Stonington beat NFA 9-5 on Thursday. Josh McBain scored three goals and Cooper Light scored twice for the Bears (1-2). Tristan Lacey had three goals, Gavin Jenkins had a goal and an assist, Cortlan Beetle scored a goal, Wyatt Woodcock had an assist and Patrick Lawson made 21 saves for the Wildcats (0-2). H.S. girls' lacrosse • Ally Iacobellis scored four goals for Williams in a 14-5 loss to King School. Victoria Falkenstein also scored for the Blues (2-3) and Elle Read had six draw controls. • East Lyme beat Fitch 17-2 in an ECC Division I game on Thursday night. Gianna DiLoreto had three goals and an assist, Callan Keefe had three goals, Taylor Kachinsky and Jessica Knapp had two goals and an assist each and Morgan Romanowicz scored twice for the Vikings (3-0, 2-0). Knapp also had four draw controls and two ground balls, Emily Salek had five draw controls, a goal and an assist and Emma Stoddard had three draw controls, four ground balls, a goal and an assist for East Lyme. H.S. boys' golf • Old Lyme lost to Haddam-Killingworth 187-189 in a Shoreline Conference match on Thursday. Jonah Scheckwitz led the Wildcats (1-1, 1-1) with a 45 and Elliot Dunn-Sims and Manu Geronimo each shot 47. H.S. girls' golf • NFA's Caroline Goderre was the medalist with a 45 as the Wildcats beat Quinebaug Valley 219-259 in an ECC match on Wednesday. Erin O'Farrell shot a 46 for NFA and Sadie Murray led Quinebaug with a 51. Muldowney named All-American • UConn sophomore hockey player Joey Muldowney was named a CCM/ACHA All-American as one of the nation's top 24 players at the "Friday Night at the Frozen Four" in St. Louis. Muldowney earns a spot on the East Second Team. Muldowney is the third Husky to earn All-America status during the program's Division I era, playing in all 39 games for the Huskies and leading the team with 29 goals, second amongst all Division I scorers. Muldowney finished the season with 47 points, setting a program record for most points in a single season.
