Local roundup: Iacobellis sparks Williams School to HVAL quarterfinal victory

Waterford — Ally Iacobellis scored five goals to power Williams School past Harvey School, 18-10, in Housatonic Valley Athletic League girls' lacrosse quarterfinal action on Monday. Elle Reid contributed three goals, two assists and 10 draw controls for the Blues (9-5) while Annie Gingras had five goals and two assists. Juliette Foisie had two goals. Williams advances to the conference semifinals, facing Wooster School Tuesday in Danbury. In other games: • Grace Cassata scored five goals and Sophia Guiveia had four in Wheeler's 17-8 over Killingly. Katheryn DelGrosso, Ava Gentes and Julie Larkin each chipped in two goals apiece for the Lions (8-3). Killingly dipped to 1-12. • Sofia Pero had three goals and Morghan Kuhn added two for New London/St. Bernard in an 8-2 win over Griswold/Norwich Tech in and Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II game. Tatiana Henry, Violet Kunka and Addison Muggeo-Taggart also had a goal for the Whalers (5-7, 2-5). The Wolverines fell to 1-13, 0-8. • Waterford improved to 9-2 overall, 5-0 in Division I, with a 15-7 victory over Norwich Free Academy. Victoria Sturm had five goals and three draw controls for the Lancers while Katie Jamroga had four goals and Adyson Wiseman had two goals, two assists, five caused turnovers, five ground balls and five draw controls. Molly Page and Hayleigh Young led the Wildcats (9-3, 1-3) with three goals apiece and Leah Burchman had one goal and two assists. H.S. boys' tennis • Waterford won every match in straight sets in a 7-0 sweep of Ledyard (5-4). Christos Matsas, Colton Murch, Justin Wang and Arthur Dhervilly posted singles wins for the Lancers (9-3) while Andrew Bertrand combined with Jayden Campisi for a win at No. 1 doubles. • Lyman Memorial defeated St. Bernard/Wheeler, 5-2, in a Division III match. Cody Rahmann won at No. 3 singles for the Bulldogs (3-8, 3-2) and Matthew Stotts won at No. 4. Wyatt Hayes and Elias Johnson earned singles wins for the Saints (1-10, 1-3). • Brady O'Neil, Chase Donnarummo, Sam Lund and Sean Lord won their singles matches in Stonington's 6-1 win over Woodstock. The Bears are 9-2. • Williams School defeated Hamden Hall, 4-3, receiving singles wins from Emelia Leming at No. 1 and Johnny Gould at No 3. H.S. girls' tennis • Marina Matsas, Nayoung Kwon and Lila Tinnerello posted singles wins in straight sets, as Waterford downed Fitch, 6-1. Madeline Beaulieau won at No. 2 singles for the Falcons. • East Lyme knocked off Stonington, 4-3, in a tight Division I match. Mila Lovering and Jessica Feng led the Vikings (8-2, 2-2) with singles wins and No. 1 doubles duos of Nina McKiernan and Veronica Castro also won. Gwen McGugan won at No. 1 singles for the Bears (7-2, 1-2). • Kelly Chen scored Montville's only point with a singles win in a 6-1 loss to Woodstock. The Wolves are 5-5. H.S. boys' golf • Norwich Free Academy finished first in the CIAC Spring Golf Classic and Marcus Lisee earned medalist honors with a 34 for the Wildcats. Nick Wigfield finished in a four-way tie for fourth place at 37. The Wildcats posted a winning team scores of 152, with Notre Dame-West Haven (156) taking second and Killingly, Foran and Cromwell tying for third at 167. • Wheeler's Jaxson Davis shot a 1-over par 38 to edge out Griswold's Gennaro Lavado (39) for medalist honors but the Wolverines won the match, 5.5-1.5, at River Ridge Golf Course. Cooper Wilson had a 41 for Griswold (7-3), which captured the team medal points, 169-173. The Lions are 7-4. • Logan Holt was the medalist with a 41 for Grasso Tech, which tied Cheney Tech, 217-217, at Skungamaug River Golf Course. H.S. volleyball • Norwich Free Academy defeated Capital Prep, 3-0, with game scores of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-9. Alec Ferland had four aces and 13 assists for the Wildcats (9-7) and Mason Stolhammer added four kills and six aces.
