Local roundup: Sturm, Brigham, lead Waterford past Ledyard in girls' lacrosse

Waterford — Victoria Sturm and Quinn Brigham scored three goals apiece Tuesday and the Waterford High School girls' lacrosse team defeated Ledyard 10-6. Mackenzie Boyer and Tianna Winkelman had two goals apiece for the Colonels (8-6). Waterford is 10-2. In other games: • Molly Page scored seven goals, including the 273rd of her career breaking the Norwich Free Academy all-time goals record held by Susie Piotkowski (2006), as the Wildcats defeated Fitch 18-4 in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I. Hayleigh Young had her 111th draw control of the season, breaking her own record for draw controls in a season. NFA is 10-3 overall, 2-3 in the division. • East Lyme battled back from a 5-0 deficit after one quarter and held on to a 9-8 victory over Guilford. Gianna DiLoreto had five goals for East Lyme (10-3), and Jessica Knapp had one goal, one assist and three draw controls. Ani Mazzulli added three caused turnovers and five ground balls for the Vikings and goalie Kaylee Knapp had five ground balls and five saves. • Sophia Gouveia scored eight goals and Wheeler defeated New London/St. Bernard 15-5 in ECC Division III. Katheryn DelGrosso scored five times for the Lions (9-3, 6-2). Boys' lacrosse • Finn Bruno scored three goals and East Lyme defeated St. Bernard/Wheeler 8-5. Ryan Duecker had two goals for the Vikings (11-2). Mark Sauchuk scored twice for St. Bernard/Wheeler (11-5). • Stonington defeated Montville 15-4 in ECC Division II. Logan Christina had four goals for the Bears (7-8, 2-2), while Kyle Olsson scored three times, Patrick McGugan had a goal and two assists and Cole Scahill had two goals. • Morgan defeated Old Lyme 5-2. Ben Goulding scored both goals for the Wildcats. Baseball • Eddie Torres was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored to lead New London to a 10-0 win over Windham and a berth in the state tournament. Jacoby LaFleur earned the win for the Whalers (8-6 overall), striking out seven. • Aidan Cochrane pitched a complete-game one-hitter as East Lyme blanked NFA 4-0 in ECC Division I. Cochrane struck out seven. Nick Cambi and Dylan Joyce had a hit, RBI and run scored for the Vikings (11-3, 5-1). NFA is 11-5, 3-3. • Gaighe DeBella pitched 4.2 innings, giving up three hits and one run and Killingly edged Ledyard 4-2. Lincoln Waterman earned the save for Killingly (12-4) and Brady Zadora led the offense with two hits. • NFA had a six-run second inning and beat Rockville 6-1 on Monday. Conner Caulfield drove in three runs and Carter Stringer and Jacob Holmberg combined to strike out eight for the Wildcats. Softball • St Bernard qualified for the state tournament with a 2-1 win over Bacon Academy in ECC Division III. Lena Byers drove in two runs for the Saints (7-8, 5-1). Reina Hill had two hits for Bacon (5-8, 2-4) • Griswold defeated Montville 2-0 in ECC Division III. Kierra Neilson tripled and scored a run while Bella Bruno doubled, scored a run and drove in a run for Griswold (7-6, 4-2). Savanna Malinowsky had two hits for Montville (8-6, 2-4). • Norwich Tech won two games, 19-1 over Grasso Tech and 21-3 over Prince Tech. In the Grasso Tech game, winning pitcher Autumn Hanks threw a five-inning, no-hitter and also had four hits and five RBI. In the second game, freshman Carlie Brown earned her first varsity win, while Olyvia Nott had three hits and three RBI. • Stonington defeated New London 19-0 in ECC Division II. Hana Lyon had two hits, two RBI and three runs scored, Ainslie Zagol had two hits, three runs scored and three RBI and Sophia Dutra scored two runs and had two RBI for the Bears (8-4, 5-1). Boys' golf • Jaxon Davis shot 37 and Wheeler blanked Plainfield 7-0 in ECC Division IV. David Levanto shot 39 for the Lions (8-4, 5-0). • Griswold defeated New London 7-0 in ECC Division III. Josiah Wells led Griswold with a 1-over par 36. Gennaro Lavado and Aiden Plante each shot 40 for the Wolverines (8-3, 5-0). • Medalist Jacob Olson shot 45 to lead Quinebaug Valley past Lyman Memorial 6-1 in ECC Division IV. • Old Lyme beat Waterford 175-186 in a nonleague match on Monday. Medalist honors were shared at 39 by Jonah Scheckwitz of Old Lyme and Lucas Vincenti of Waterford. Girls' golf • Woodstock beat Stonington 209-236 in an ECC match on Monday. Reagen Scheck of Woodstock was the medalist with a 44 and Taya Kelly led the Bears (5-3, 5-3) with a 56. Boys' tennis • East Lyme defeated Montville 6-1. Ajay Rana, James Martin and Aaron Huang won in singles for the Vikings (10-0). Montville is 8-4 • Stonington defeated Ledyard 7-0. Brady O'Neil, Chase Donnarummo, Sam Lund and Sean Lord won in singles for the Bears (10-2). • The Williams School ended its season with a 5-1 win over Oxford Academy. Annie Shay, Nick Cosentino, Sadie Rotolo and Will Corkhill won in singles for the Blues. • Old Lyme defeated Valley Regional 6-1. Andy Sicuranza, Micah Bass and James Dahlke won in singles for the Wildcats (6-6). • St. Bernard/Wheeler defeated NFA 6-1. Wyatt Hayes, Elias Johnson and Jackson Leitkowski won in singles for St. Bernard/Wheeler (2-10). Girls' tennis • Old Lyme beat East Hampton 7-0 in a Shoreline Conference match on Monday. Katherine Zhang, Emma Arelt, Mari Munster and Rose Dimmock won in straight sets for the Wildcats (11-1). UConn to compete in Women's Showcase • The UConn women's basketball team will compete in the 12th annual Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase, which will adopt a tournament-style format, on Nov. 21 and 23 at Mohegan Sun Arena. UConn will open the tournament vs. Utah on Nov. 21. The Huskies will face either Syracuse or Michigan on Nov. 23.
