Stonington — Sal Alessio scored a pair of second-half goals as Stonington beat Waterford 2-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' soccer game on Thursday night.Alessio scored in the 54th minute with an assist from Hagen Drake and in the 60th minute off an assist byJoey Goulart. Nick Cannella made seven saves for the Bears (7-5-1, 2-2-1) and Ben Dubicki made two saves for Waterford (6-6-1, 1-2-2).In other games:• Freshman Justin Portillo scored all three goals as Norwich Tech beat Vinal Tech 3-1 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Jadiel Thomas led the boys' team with a second-place finish and teammate Mack Rodgers was third. The girls' team was led by Alexa Pesarik (fifth) and Lena Cosentino (seventh).College volleyball• Mitchell College beat Elms 3-2 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Wednesday night. Junior Julia Lent finished with a career-high 38 digs for the Mariners (6-10, 2-3). The libero became the career digs leader in the Division III era of the program with 1,001. Lent surpassed Kaisea Caramante (997), who played from 2012-2015.Genna Hyde had 13 kills, 24 digs and five aces, Allison Blum had nine kills and 16 digs , Molly Wordell had 12 kills, Crystal Gangi had 22 assists and Montville's Brooke Taylor had 15 assists for Mitchell.
