Waterford man charged with dealing drugs through the mail
Waterford―Police arrested a Quaker Hill man Thursday and charged him with selling pain killers through the mail.
Umair Manzoor, 40, of 531 Mohegan Avenue, was charged with three counts of unauthorized sale of a controlled substance and three counts of possession of a controlled substance. Waterford police, in a statement, said Manzoor had been the target of an investigation by the department’s investigative services division. The investigation included work by the Groton Town Police Department and the Narcotics and Bulk Cash Trafficking Task Force of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
The investigation, police said, involved the monitoring of packages mailed and received by Manzoor that contained the prescription drug tapentadol, an opioid pain killer. Manzoor was arrested by warrant on Thursday afternoon when police said they also seized synthetic marijuana, which is illegal under Connecticut law.
Manzoor was held in lieu of a $150,000 bond. Further details were not immediately available.
