Police trying to identify good Samaritans in bridge rescue

New London ― Police Chief Brian Wright is looking to identify the two good Samaritans who aided off-duty New London Police Lt. Cornelius Rodgers at the scene of Friday’s fatal crash on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge.

The two bystanders stopped on the bridge in the aftermath of the crash, aiding Rodgers to pull the driver of a car to safety even as flames threatened to consume the car.

“The selfless and heroic acts by the involved individuals to rescue an injured person from a vehicle was remarkable,” Wright said in a statement.

Wright said he wants to personally thank the two individuals “and bestow upon them a measure of appreciation from the New London Police Department.”

Anyone with information on the identity of the individuals is encouraged to contact the New London Police Department at 860-447-5281.
