Norwich police charge man in attempted theft of ATM

Norwich ― Police this week charged one of the two suspects in the attempted theft of an ATM machine at a local bank last year.

Mark Chee-You, 25, of New Britain, faces charges of first-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

At 3:30 a.m. on May 8, 2023, police said Chee-You and Euris Tejada, 31, of Rocky Hill attempted to steal cash from a drive-up ATM at the Berkshire Bank on Salem Turnpike. Police said the two men used pry bars in an unsuccessful attempt to reach the safe inside the ATM and triggered an alarm that brought police to the scene.

Both men fled and after a multi-town chase were captured in Rocky Hill.

Chee-You turned himself in on Monday after learning of the warrant in the larceny case. Tejada, who is in prison on criminal charges that include a home invasion in Middletown, has not yet been charged in the Norwich case.
