Groton man killed in Ledyard motorycle crash

Ledyard ― A 22-year-old Groton man died Wednesday night after police said he crashed his motorcycle into a guardrail on Christy Hill Road.

Andrew S. Haydon of 59 Georgia St. was killed in the 8 p.m. crash, Ledyard police said.

Police said they arrived at the scene to find a 2023 Yamaha motorcycle in the westbound lane in the area of 97 Christy Hill Road and Haydon’s body in the eastbound travel lane.

A preliminary investigation showed that the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Christy Hill Road when it left the road and struck a metal guardrail.

An investigation is being conducted by the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit, which consists of officers from the Ledyard, Stonington, Groton Town and Groton City police departments.
