A 47-year-old former Griswold man is accused of raping a woman last year at a Canterbury boat launch.

Tramyer Williams, formerly of 269 Taylor Hill Road, was charged Wednesday by state police with first-degree sexual assault in connection with the alleged rape of a woman on Sept. 29, 2023, on Butts Bridge Road, according to an arrest warrant application.

The victim told police Williams assaulted her in her car before she dropped him off in a nearby parking lot. Williams declined to speak with detectives when questioned in December.

Police said Williams, who was convicted of second-degree threatening in Norwich Superior Court in May, was arrested at the Cheshire Correctional Institution, where he is serving an 11-month sentence.
