Rocky Neck State Park remains closed until further notice due to fire
East Lyme ― Rocky Neck State Park remained closed on Tuesday as firefighters continued work to contain hot spots left over from a fire that started on Saturday.
Firefighting crews from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection have stopped the progress of a fire that has burned about 44 acres of the 710-acre park. Firefighters, however, continue to dig up and extinguish pockets of smoldering soil and brush that can lead to flareups, said James Fowler, DEEP’s senior advisor on outreach and engagement.
The park will remain closed until further notice.
The fire at Rocky Neck is one of dozens across the state. An emergency burn ban remains in effect for all state parks, forests and wildlife management areas. The ban prohibits the use of all outdoor grills, fire pits and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors.
