Norwich ― Two days after fire displaced three families and severely damaged parts of a three-story home at 31 Ninth St, city police announced Thursday they have joined an investigation of the fire’s cause.

The Norwich fire marshal’s office, the police department’s Fire Investigation Unit and the state police Fire and Explosion Unit are investigating, according to a news release.

Police Capt. John Perry said the department will not release any further information at this time.

The department’s Emergency 911 Communication Center received multiple calls about the fire around 7:26 p.m. Tuesday, according to the release. Because the fire was large and spread rapidly, multiple departments, including the Taftville, Occum, East Great Plain, Laurel Hill and Yantic fire departments and the Mohegan Tribal Fast Team, responded.

    No injuries were reported.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Officer Jared Szuba at (860) 886-5561, extension 3571 or by e-mail to jszuba@cityofnorwich.org, or by calling the department’s anonymous tip line at (860) 886-5561, extension 4.
