Groton — All lanes of Interstate 95 southbound on the Gold Star Bridge have reopened following the Tuesday afternoon breakdown of an inspection truck, according to the New London Fire Department.

Bridge engineers Chris Chuck and Mohamad Salehi of AI Engineers — a company contracted by the state Department of Transportation — were inspecting the underside of the bridge when a piece of the snooper truck they were using broke, the workers said.

The two workers said they were told to stay in the snooper truck bucket as a precaution until they could be removed from it.

New London firefighter Kurt Fetzer was able to reach the two workers using a tower ladder.

New London Fire Department Lt. Stephen Wargo said New London responded along with the Groton Fire Department. Wargo said there were no injuries.
