Exploring Open Houses
By Gretchen A. Peck
In conversations with local Realtors, things are still moving and shaking out in the southeast Connecticut real estate market. Properties are still fetching multiple offers and going under contract quickly. For buyers, that means there’s still some competition with which to contend, so it’s important to stay apprised of new homes coming to market. Here’s a snapshot of some of the Open Houses planned around the region this weekend:
Norwich
Broker-Owners of Riverview Realty, Dale Bunn and Heather Ford-Bunn are hosting an Open House at their new listing at 25 East Avenue in Norwich — offered to the market for $189,900. This is a two- or three-bedroom, 952-square-foot ranch, in a neighborhood setting on Norwich’s west side, not far from Lucas Park. Among the compelling attributes of the property are hardwood floors, a spacious kitchen, walk-out basement, off-street parking, and a 0.17-acre lot. The brokers suggest that this is a “perfect starter home,” and that it “should qualify for most forms of financing.” The Open House at 25 East Ave., Norwich is Saturday, November 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pawcatuck
The Bowes Team at RE/MAX On the Bay in Niantic welcomes buyers to an Open House on Saturday, November 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 79 Liberty St., Pawcatuck. This three-bedroom home has been updated, including two newly remodeled bathrooms. The kitchen also got an upgrade, with new appliances and countertops. The 1,429-square-foot interiors are freshly painted, and the seller installed a brand-new oil tank. The seller is asking $300,000 for the property, which is just minutes from downtown Westerly.
Groton
Newly listed, 209 Baker Avenue, Groton, is on the market for $229,500. Jacqueline Hoyt, with Coldwell Banker Realty, is the seller’s agent. This three-bedroom ranch has had a single owner for more than 60 years, according to Hoyt. The 1,008-square-foot house was renovated approximately eight years ago, including a new roof, siding, furnace, and a remodeled full bathroom.
The house is sited on a 0.14-acre lot that’s part of a cul-de-sac community. It’s close to beaches, parks, shopping, and destinations like Mystic, Stonington’s Borough, and New London. This home may be of particular interest to employees of General Dynamics/Electric Boat, for it’s close by. Hoyt is hosting Open Houses at 209 Baker Ave., Groton, on Friday, November 18, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, November 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Sunday, November 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Ledyard
Pam Mandelburg, a Realtor with William Raveis Real Estate in Mystic, will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, November 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the newly listed 1024 Shewville Road in Ledyard. This three-bedroom, 2,115-square-foot contemporary-leaning colonial was built in 1998. The house is situated high on the 2.46-acre lot, delivering spectacular sunsets, according to the listing agent.
Among the interiors are vaulted ceilings and skylights, Palladian windows, and an expansive kitchen. The house has a walk-out basement, a two-car garage, two decks and a pool, plus a whole-house Generac generator. The asking price is $449,000.
Waterford
The Cape-style colonial at 178 River Road in Waterford sits waterfront on a 0.55-acre lot overlooking the Niantic River and Sandy Point Beach on the opposite bank. William Pitt Sotheby’s Realtor Tony Walstra suggests to buyers that the 2,512-square-foot interiors of the home will “take your breath away.” Prospective buyers can get a sense of that at the Open House this Saturday, November 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This three-bedroom home has hardwood floors, three baths, an abundance of windows, attached garaging for two cars, and a huge deck overlooking the sloping backyard. Steps lead down to a deck and to direct frontage on the river. The primary suite has spectacular water views. The seller is asking $950,000 for the property.
