If you’re buying or selling a home in Connecticut for the first time, you may wonder why it’s necessary to hire both a Realtor and a real estate attorney. Broker Heather Ford-Bunn of Riverview Realty explains:
“The reason attorneys are needed for buyers and sellers is that, in Connecticut, we do not have title companies handle the closings. The attorneys are the ones who handle the escrows for property sales and title insurance companies. Most banks require an attorney to represent each side of the transaction. Real estate agents will provide you with representation while looking for a home and submitting offers, but the final sale will be handled by an attorney.”
