Open House: Explore 350 Great Neck Road This Saturday
By Gretchen A. Peck
Luann Perkins, a Realtor with William Raveis Real Estate’s Niantic brokerage, welcomes showings of 350 Great Neck Road in Waterford. It’s a three-bedroom raised ranch with a deck, pool and both an attached and detached garage. The asking price is $585,000.
Welcome Home spoke with Cassie Scarpa, the co-owner of the property. She spoke of how much her family has enjoyed not only the house, but this particular location within easy reach of Ocean Beach, Waterford Beach and Harkness Memorial Park.
“We immediately fell in love with it,” Scarpa recalled the day their Realtor showed them the property. She said looking at the front of the house is somewhat misleading. It’s quite spacious inside, with 2,251 square feet of living space.
“It’s great for entertaining, with an open-space concept between three rooms—the living room, a dining room and the kitchen. The kitchen was updated by the previous owner, who added cherry hardwood cabinets, granite counters and appliances in stainless and black finishes.
The living and entertaining spaces open out to a large Trex deck, an above-ground pool and a pool house.
“We’ve had every type of event here—Christmas parties, parties with my son’s wrestling team, pool parties,” she said.
Next to the pool is a small pool house with shelving for storage of yard and pool equipment. Their family added a freezer to the interiors, where they could keep ice cream and popsicles for hot summer days.
Scarpa said it was clear to them that the previous owner had cared for and maintained the house, so they didn’t need to make any major improvements. However, they did put their own imprint on the house. For example, they removed wallpaper in several rooms and gave the walls fresh coats of paint. They recently invested roughly $1,700 to replace the pool lining.
The couple also reimagined the main entrance and foyer, creating more of a practical mudroom, with bench seating, a new light fixture and pegs for hanging jackets, purses and backpacks. “That way, when school comes around, the kids could just grab their things and go,” she explained.
The first floor also has a large storage space, three bathrooms and two of the three bedrooms. There are two fireplaces integrated into the floor plan—a propane-fueled fireplace in the living room and a wood-burning fireplace in the primary bedroom.
The third bedroom, a secondary family room and an abundance of storage space make up the lower level. Plus, there’s an attached one-car garage.
In addition to the attached garage, the driveway winds past the house and pool and leads to a detached two-car garage. “It could literally be its own house, it’s that big,” the owner said.
Should the buyer not require additional garaging, that outbuilding could be renovated to be a workshop, creative studio or office, or even a guest house, she suggested.
Asked to reflect on the home’s location, the seller said the school district was a compelling factor when they bought the house.
“We wanted to be part of the Great Neck community and have our children go to Great Neck Elementary, which is a fantastic school. … The second thing we’ve love is Harkness, which is not even a three-minute drive from the house. You can bike there, and in fact, our kids learned how to ride bicycles there. I often bring the dogs there for a walk,” she said.
“Waterford Beach has concerts every Wednesday night in the summertime, with food trucks,” she added. “It’s easy to get involved with the community and feel a sense of belonging.”
