    Local roundup: East Lyme boys’ lacrosse has seven players honored at all-state banquet

    Cheshire — The East Lyme High School boys’ lacrosse team had seven players honored at the recent Connecticut High School Coaches’ Association all-state banquet, including long-stick midfielder Campbell Posgay, who was named to the Academic All-America Team.

    Attack Drew Sager, midfielder Aidan Patterson and defender Spencer Kennedy earned first team all-state honors for the Vikings, who reached the semifinals of the Class M state tournament. Jack Campbell, Juan Morales Jr. and Luke Sallan were named to the second team.

    Also named to the Class M first team was Waterford’s Dom Hedge.

    In Class S, Old Lyme’s Mason Bussmann, St. Bernard/Wheeler’s Ben Howes and Noah Courter and Bacon Academy’s Zach Carroll were named first team all-state. Bacon’s Ethan LoVetere, Avatar Disher and Chase Goulet, Stonington’s Ethan Mahoney and Maddox Massengale, Montville’s Chris Baukus and Old Lyme’s Macklin Cushman were second team honorees.

    Bacon Academy coach Brian Martin was named the Class S Coach of the Year and Bacon assistant Mike Orfao was honored as Assistant Coach of the Year.

    H.S. girls’ lacrosse

    • Old Lyme, which reached the championship game of the Class S state tournament, had four players honored as first team all-state selections. Alexis Antonellis, Ella Curtiss-Reardon, Sydney Goulding and Bella Ziegler were named to the Class S first team, while teammate Kaela Hoss was named to the second team.

    Also in Class S, Wheeler’s Sophia Gouveia and Stonington’s Emma Logel were first team honorees, with Stonington’s Shay Burniside, Shya Fine and Ellie Zuro named to the second team.

    Waterford’s Quinn Brigham and the Ledyard tandem of Tatianna Irizarry and Maddie McLeod were named to the Class M first team, with Bacon Academy’s Alexia Rodriguez honored as a second team pick.

    In Class L, Fitch’s Gabby Dimock and Bethany Lovering were first team picks and East Lyme’s Lily Poletto was named to the second team. Norwich Free Academy’s Molly Page was a second team selection in Class LL.

    Antonellis, Curtiss-Reardon, Goulding and McLeod were named to the Academic All-State Team, while McLeod and East Lyme’s Riddhi Venkatesh were among the 22 players selected to the USA Lacrosse Connecticut All-Academic Team.

    American Legion baseball

    • Anthony Jessuck struck out 10, allowing four hits over five innings in first-place Waterford’s 29-0 victory Moosup. Alex Dreyfus was 3-for-4 for Waterford (6-1), including a double, Brian Ingraham also had three hits and Luca Muscarella and Alex Picardi each had four RBI.

    District 10 baseball (9-11)

    • Gabe Mitchell earned the win and Joey Sylvia the save in Montville’s 10-8 victory Monday over Stonington. William Cornish led the Montville offense with two hits and Connor Dodge drove in two runs with a bases -loaded triple. Matthew Gunther pitched well in relief for Stonington.

    District 10 baseball (8-10)

    • Brody Rashleigh was 2-for-2, while Cooper Loughlean, Xander Hesch and Nathan Olock also had big hits in Stonington’s 7-4 victory over Ledyard. Pitchers Aiden Field and Ian Prendergast combined for the victory.

    • Cade Benevides struck out nine and drove in two runs in Waterford’s 11-2 win over Stonington on Monday. Hunter Hodgson had two RBI for Waterford. Ian Prendergast had an RBI for Stonington.
