Local roundup: Schooners lead NECBL All-Star selections with seven
North Adams, Mass. — The Mystic Schooners had seven players named Sunday to the East Division roster for the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game on July 21 at Muzzy Field in Bristol.
Mystic’s Julian “Juju” Stevens (Missouri Columbia) was named as a starting outfielder, while relief pitcher Connor Harris (Winthrop) and Max Haug (George Washington), catcher Matt Brinker (Northeastern), first baseman Maddix Dalena (UConn), outfielder Scotty Young (Old Dominion) and designated hitter Tyler Minick (UConn) were chosen as reserves.
That ties Mystic (17-14) with Newport for the most All-Star selections.
Newport’s Mike Coombs will manage the East Division team, while Mitch Holmes of Vermont will lead the West Division team.
All-Star Game festivities will start at 2:45 p.m. with the Home Run Derby, with the game set to begin at 5:10 p.m.
• On Sunday, Stevens hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Schooners to a 3-1 victory over the North Shore Navigators in Lynn, Massachusetts. Mystic scored all three runs in the eighth, also getting an RBI single from Dalena, to overcome a 1-0 deficit. Devin Wolff (UConn) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory and Waterford’s Connor Podeszwa (Tufts) came on in the ninth to earn his fifth save.

• AJ Soldra (NJIT) was 3-for-5 with a double, triple and three RBI as the Norwich Sea Unicorns defeated the Westfield Starfires 7-3 in a Futures Collegiate Baseball League game at Dodd Stadium. Soldra’s RBI triple highlighted a three-run first inning for the Sea Unicorns (23-15). Sebastian Mueller (Quinnipiac) also had three hits and Connor Lane (UConn) and Kaiden Dossa (Yale) had two each. Mike Poncini (Quinippiac) earned the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Junior Legion
• Torin Grady and Andrew McElwee each had two hits for Waterford Junior Legion in a 10-2 victory over Tri-Town.
