    Local roundup: East Lyme tops Waterford in ECC swimming

    East Lyme — Julia Morcos placed first in the 100 butterfly and won the 200 individual medley to help pace East Lyme past Waterford, 98-77, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference swimming meet on Tuesday.

    Morcos posted winning times of one minute, 4.85 seconds, and 2:25.87, respectively.

    Peyton Maynard took first in the 100 freestyle (1:01.93) and Sylvi Otter won the diving event with 212.05 points for the Vikings (3-1, 2-1) while Ella Papa won the 50 freestyle (26.01).

    Julia Gathy won the 500 freestyle (5:49.86) and 200 freestyle (2:10.74) for the Lancers (2-2, 2-1) and Hannah Blomberg took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.94).

    In other meets:

    • Addison Fulling won the 50 freestyle and joined Lauren Bullock, Lucy Doyle-Kusy and Pema Kennedy on the winning 200 medley relay team, as Fitch/Stonington/New London/Wheeler defeated NFA, 83-77, in an ECC meet. Other winners for Fitch (3-1, 3-0) included Audrey Schrage (100 butterfly), Ashlyn Dunn (100 freestyle) and Vee Sherman (500 freestyle). The Wildcats fell to 0-4, 0-4.

    Women’s soccer

    • Connecticut College overcame a one-goal deficit with two second half strikes to beat Eastern Connecticut State University, 2-1. Zola Alcaro’s header off a corner kick tied the score and Ella Natal converted the game winner for the Camels (4-3).

    Men’s soccer

    • Conn College scored twice in a 10-minute span and went on to defeat Western New England, 3-1. Matt Scoffone scored two goals and Marco Perugini added one for the Camels (4-1-2).

    • Coast Guard Academy improved to 7-0-1 overall with a 3-0 shutout of UMass Dartmouth (1-5-1). Brennan King scored two goals about four and a half minutes apart early in the first half for the Bears and Nicholas Yorgason scored an unassisted goal. Goalie Connor Hickey had one save.

    College volleyball

    • Coast Guard Academy’s comeback fell short at No. 6 MIT in a 3-1 loss in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference action. Game scores were 25-18, 25-18, 20-25 and 25-21. Amelia Matson and Shannon Shaw each had 10 kills for the Bears (9-5, 0-1).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Izzy Ash and Isabela Gustavson each contributed a goal and an assist in Fitch’s 3-1 win over Waterford in ECC action. Ada Ellis also scored for the Falcons (5-2, 3-2) and goalie Esma Carleback had 15 saves. Larissa Martin scored an unassisted goal for the Lancers (4-3, 2-2).

    • Kate Erikson, Lily Gibson and Mia Lloyd scored two goals apiece in East Lyme’s 8-0 win over Woodstock in the ECC. Sophia Gibson and Grace Lloyd each had a goal and two assists for the Vikings (4-2, 4-0) and Callan Keefe had two assists.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Dominique Sanchez chipped in 28 digs and Maddie Meyer had 17 kills and 13 digs in Bacon Academy’s 3-1 win over Lyman Memorial in Division III. Bailey Handwerk had 12 kills, 15 digs and three aces while Bela Dec had three blocks and Jillian Snow added 22 assists for the Bobcats (6-3, 2-1). The Bulldogs are 3-7, 2-1.

    • Griswold swept Killingly, 3-0, in a Division II match. Game scores were 25-10, 25-9 and 25-15. Bella Bruno had 25 assists, three aces, three digs and a block for the Wolverines (5-2, 3-0) and Kierra Nelson had nine kills, four digs, two blocks and two aces while Rebecca Marsh had five kills, four digs and an ace and Abby Matheson added 11 kills, one block and one ace.

    • Norwich Tech remained unbeaten in the CTC with a 3-2 win over Ellis Tech on Monday. Abby Ulrich had eight kills, three blocks and six digs, Zerrin Ratzer had seven kills and four digs and Rose Johnny had 11 assists, four digs and four aces for the Warriors (6-2, 6-0), who won 25-13, 25-11, 13-25, 20-25, 15-9.
