Local roundup: New London tops Grasso Tech in volleyball
New London — Freshman Ka`Maya Little contributed 19 service points, nine kills, four aces and two blocks to help New London beat Grasso Tech, 3-1, in a nonleague volleyball match on Monday.
Game scores were 22-25, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-11.
Sophomore Adriana Vitorino had 13 service points, 12 digs, six assists and two aces for the Whalers (1-10). Freshman Mia Donastorg added nine kills, six service points, three blocks and two aces and senior Raelyn Lopez added 22 digs, five service points and two aces. Grasso Tech fell to 2-7.
In other matches:
• Old Lyme improved to 3-9 overall and in the Shoreline Conference with a 3-0 win over Portland. Game scores were 25-17, 25-17 and 26-24. Stella Young had six kills while Kaylyn Vernon had 14 assists for the Wildcats.
• Brielle Kenney had eight aces, 14 kills and seven digs to help power Waterford past Montville, 3-0. Game scores were 25-21, 25-11 and 25-14. Mali Stelik had 17 digs and Lucy Walker added two aces, four kills, one dig and one block for the Lancers (8-3). Anna Bubucis had four blocks and Alyna Ovalles had eight digs and two aces for the Wolves (8-4).
• Griswold improved to 8-2 with a 3-0 sweep of Wheeler. Game scores were 25-13, 25-19 and 25-16. Kierra Nelson led the Wolverines (8-2) with two blocks, 13 kills, two digs and an ace while Bella Bruno had 31 assists, five digs and an ace and Summer McLean had 12 service points and six aces.
Abby Butremovic had 18 digs and Elsa Kalwara chipped in 11 assists each for the Lions (8-3).
• Savannah Guernsey had 14 assists and 10 digs in NFA’s 3-0 win over Bacon Academy (7-5). Aiyana Cloutier had 24 digs and Evelina Klyukin added nine kills and 14 digs for the Wildcats (5-7). Lily Koziol had eight kills and three blocks for the Bobcats while Dominique Sanchez had 28 digs and Bailey Hardwork had 17 digs and two aces.
• East Lyme rolled past Plainfield, 3-0, behind Megan Romanowicz (seven assists), Jordyn Skinner (10 digs, four aces) and Bella Diep (17 assists). The Vikings improved to 8-3.
H.S. girls’ soccer
• Camryn Dickinson scored 40 seconds into the game and Paige Jessuck chipped in four goals in Waterford’s 5-2 victory over Stonington. Adyson Wiseman added fours assists for the Lancers (8-0-1). Maya Terwilliger had two goals for the Bears (4-5).
• Terri Foster scored Ledyard’s goal and Allie Kondash scored for Montville in a 1-1 tie. Jess Dudley made seven saves for the Colonels (4-4-2) and Sienna Gressly had seven saves for the Wolves (7-1-1).
• Hadley Jones scored her first two goals of the season in Wheeler’s 5-2 win over New London in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV game. Lily Vallaincourt scored the go-ahead goal for the Lions (3-6-2, 3-1-1), Hannah Viele added a goal and an assist and Morgan Riley had a goal. Darielys Arnold had a goal and an assist for the Whalers (1-5, 0-4) and Rojuana Henry scored a goal.
• Hannah Richardson scored Fitch’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to Woodstock. The Falcons are 1-7. Leah Costa scored two goals for the Centaurs.
• Kate Walsh scored a goal off an assist from Olivia Kelly in Old Lyme’s 3-1 loss to Portland in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats slipped to 6-4 overall, 5-2 in the league.
• Kylee Morrison and Gianna Martinez scored goals for Grasso Tech in a 7-2 loss to Wilcox Tech. The Eagles are 2-7.
• Bridey LaFleur scored the game winning goal off an assist from Avery Volle to lift Lyman Memorial past Windham, 1-0, in Division IV. Goalie Phoebe Carpenter had two saves for the Bulldogs (8-1-1, 3-0-1).
H.S. boys’ soccer
• Erick Lopez Baigts and Brian Liu scored goals for Williams School in a 2-2 tie with the Harvey School. Kabir Patel and Liam Kelly each added an assist for the Blues.
Local golf
• Dave Jones of Mohegan Sun Golf Club is tied for fifth through the first round of the 79th Connecticut Senior Amateur Championship at Country Club of New Canaan. He shot a 5-over 75 on Monday. Patrick McGuinness of Keney Golf Club holds the lead at 1-over 71.
The final round is set for Tuesday.
• The Great Neck Country Club Men’s Invitational will tee off with shotgun start at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, in Waterford. Entry fee of $95 includes greens fee, prizes and lunch. You may enter as a foursome, threesome, twosome or individually. Blue tees only for the tournament. The field is limited to 120 golfers and entry forms are due by Oct. 9
