Conn College returns to men’s soccer Elite Eight
Fredricksburg, Va. — The Connecticut College soccer team is returning to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Division III men’s soccer tournament.
The Camels beat No. 14 Kenyon College 3-0 in penalty kicks on Saturday after the teams played to a 2-2 tie. Conn faces No. 10 Denison University on Sunday at 1 p.m., with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
Camels senior goalie Peter Silvester turned in another strong performance, turning away the first three penalty kicks attempts from Kenyon (13-3-35). Matt Scoffone, Marco Perugini and Elliot Spatz converted on kicks for the Camels (12-2-7).
Silvester, who made three saves during the game, stopped Kenyon’s first kick, watched the second go off the crossbar and the third sail over it.
Gavin Vander Berg scored in the first half for Conn and, with Kenyon leading 2-1, Rye Jaran scored in the second half to tie the game at 2-2. Sam Boehm assisted on Vanden Berg’s goal.
