Making soup joumou, a Haitian holiday tradition

Fabienne Brutus-Chiocchio of Norwich prepares soup joumou, a traditional dish that celebrates Haitian independence. The soup was originally served to colonial masters by slaves who were not allowed to eat it. When Haiti gained independence in 1804 after a slave revolt, the soup became a symbol of freedom.
